Recently 65 students and 12 teachers of Shri Natesan Vidyasala MHSS., Mannivakkam, including the well-known trekking and mountaineering trainer Mr. Thirulogachandran, were sponsored by the school for a three day trekking program to Yelegiri hills recently. This program was organised to motivate the students who had been performing well in academics, sports and extracurricular activities. The students were trained on trekking, bouldering, rope walking, rappelling, river crossing, rock climbing etc. Apart from this they were trained on the art of public speaking, study of flora and fauna, yoga and meditation and eco study.
Dr N Ramasubramanyan, Founder of the school, who led the team for the trekking expedition, advised the students that they should not only give focus on excellence in public examinations but also values in life so that they would emerge as truly useful citizens of the country. Mr. Hafizir Rahman, a leading industrialist gave a very powerful advise to the students saying that ' Honesty, humility and integrity with a realisation that the Almighty created everything for us and that doing the duty as service to humanity alone would bring mental peace and social harmony.' Mr. Sultan Ismail, an environmentalist, took the students and teachers around many parts of Yelagiri to explain about the rare medicinal herbs and plants. He also spoke about importance of growing more trees with an emphasis that we should live along with nature and always remember to maintain environmental equilibrium.
The team of teachers and students were also taken on a visit to botanical garden and lake at Yelagiri. The camp fire organised by the school, helped to bring out the inherent talents of the students and teachers to the fore.
